We – the rapists

Not one of us will buy the statement of truth.

            This isn't the first time that the land neath our feet seems to shake violently. Rape cases, mass murders and terrorist attacks are rhetorical in a nation like ours’.

            My heart not only reaches out to that girl in the capital city but cries out in pain because that girl could have been me or my friend or my sister. Back in the city of dreams, I have often caught the wrong bus with my friends, buses that often took us through brothels for us to realize “Oops, wrong bus!” Was that the only mistake because of which she was punished brutally?

            A huge black dot as a mark of shame as display picture. Candle marches and protests. Mrs. Sonia Gandhi visiting ‘our’ friend and hugging her mother for ‘THREE’ minutes as the news channels telecasted, letter to the Home Minister from once again, Mrs. Gandhi, Facebook statuses, Twitter trends, blogs and many more blogs, newspaper coverage. PERIOD. Aren’t we still being oblivious towards the obvious? Is this all we are capable of doing?

            As citizens of the country, we’ve shown an emotional furor. We’ve signed petitions that I highly doubt will solve the purpose. At a coffee shop in the eve, a lad came upto us asking us to join a rally to be held the next day. Apparently, their agenda is to create ‘awareness’. “Who the fuck needs awareness?” I wanted to yell at him. Should I be aware that I shouldn’t enter a tinted bus with a male friend of mine pre-midnight hours? Should I be aware that I must not look chic, sexy, sassy? Should I be aware of the evil male gaze when I step out of the house?

            We’ve played the blame game for years. This isn’t the first rape case ever witnessed. This is just another fresh rape case which made it to the national news while most of them get buried under the shame of the woman’s family or under the money of the influential rapist/s. we blame it on the society that has failed terribly to educate the breed of the less fair sex, the one that is tuned to ‘auto-erect’. Why can’t we blame the entire fucking society that stood there for an hour, witnessing the naked and wounded girl struggling for life? Bastards, all of them! Why can’t we blame the mothers who’ve hidden their sons under their ‘pallus’ after their horrendous deed/s?

            We belong to a society where having pre-marital sex is a taboo. We belong to a society where swapping partners is a taboo. We belong to a society where love marriages are a taboo. We belong to a society where prostitution is a dark business. We belong to a society where a young teen is probably thrashed if he is caught watching porn. We belong to a society where the phallic stage isn’t a part of most kids. Is rape just an outcome to the society in which we belong?

            I am just a pessimist with views and questions. I pray for ‘our’ friend in Delhi and her friend. I pray for their family. I pray for the rapists and their families. I pray for myself and my friends, my family, my nation and humanity. Can we change, not the system but ourselves? Can I change me? Yes, I can. 

I vouch to continue dressing skimpily if I am attending a party with my friends because that is how I like being dressed. I vouch to continue drinking with my friends on New Year's. I vouch to lend a helping had if I ever witness a douche trying to misbehave.

Ram Singh is a rapist. What are all those people who didn't bother to lend a hand while the girl laid naked and injured for an hour?

Ram Singh looks like the one who just re-ignited the #SaveOurWomen mind set. Its like n Anna Hazare moment which will eventually just fizzle.

I pity Ram Singh & his friends. Poor guys had a terrible sex life. If there are others like them, let me tell u, "Get a life!"
